SDMC E-mail List and Membership Roster

The majority of club communication is conducted via e-mail. SDMC uses Yahoo Groups to accomplish this. The SDMC group is named SDMC-List and is available only to SDMC members. A free Yahoo account is required to join SDMC-List. Follow the instructions below to join the SDMC-List group, send messages to the club, and access the membership roster.

Join the SDMC-List Yahoo Group

  1. Go to http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/SDMC-List.
  2. Click the button labeled “Join This Group!” on the right side of the page.
  3. If you have a Yahoo account, log in. If you do not have a Yahoo account, click the “Sign Up” link at the bottom of the page and follow the directions to create a new Yahoo account.
  4. Once you have logged in, you will be returned to the SDMC-List “Join This Group” page.
  5. In the “Comment to Owner” text box, enter a message stating you are an SDMC member. Ensure to include your full name if you did not use your full name when registering your Yahoo account.
  6. Select a Message Delivery and Message Format option.
  7. Complete the Word Verification.
  8. Click the “Join” button.
  9. If all required information has been entered, a “Membership Pending” page will appear. The Group moderator will verify your SDMC membership and approve your membership; you will receive a confirmation e-mail when approved. The verification and approval process may take several days.

E-mail Etiquette

Our List is a private, unmoderated list exclusively for the use of current members of the San Diego Miata Club. The primary purpose of this list is to promote Miata-related communications among members of the San Diego Miata Club.

Posting or Replying to the List When sending or replying to list messages, check the address list to make sure that it is addressed to the intended recipient. Don't send a reply to the whole list if it is really meant for the original sender, especially if it has no Miata content (NMC).

Message Subject Tags The sd-miata mail list can be extremely active, so filtering this mail to a separate mail folder is highly recommended. To make things easier for additional filtering of list mail, the following subject tags should be used for these common topics (anything else does not need a tag):

EVENT - related to runs, autocross and other club events
TECH - technical topics, requests for technical opinions, shop recommendations
LMC - Little Miata Content
NMC - No Miata Content

In order to keep the list usable, please limit the amount of NMC posted to the list, especially with forwarded messages.

Plain Text, Please People on this list may all drive Miatas, but we use different types of computers. Nobody appreciates getting large mail files that they cannot read, or having their limited mailbox space filled up with a single large attachment. For that reason attachments are stripped out by the list's software.

Keep it simple, send messages as plain text only with no attachments. (This means no MIME or HTML attachments.) If you don't know how to turn off MIME/HTML, please ask the listmaster!

Sharing Neat Binary files, such as images, can be uploaded to a 20 Mb space on the mail list's Web site http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SDMC-List. To access the space set aside for sharing your files with other members you must join the SDMC community and then click on the "files" link. You can then create a folder with your name on it and upload to the folder. After uploading your image(s) send a note to the list, including the URL http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SDMC-List.

Changing Your List Address Send your new E-mail address to the mail San Diego Miata Club list maintainer at: <SDMC-List-owner@yahoogroups.com>.

Get Me Off This Crazy List You can do this yourself by sending a note to SDMC-List-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com>, or to our postmaster at <SDMC-List-owner@yahoogroups.com>.

Just the Facts There is an alternate announcements-only E-mail list with postings of club events and last-minute event changes no chat. To get on the announcements-only list, send E-mail to our postmaster at <SDMC-Events-owner@yahoogroups.com>.

How to Get Off the List Without Even Asking Causes for involuntary removal from the mail list include unresolvable technical difficulties in sending mail, abuse of the mail list (complaints from other list members about spam or offensive postings from a mail list member) and termination of membership in the San Diego Miata Club.
