8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

or

1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Starting from Stage B on Tecolote Road.

Please arrive 15 minutes before the start time.

Palomar Mountain is a 6,140-foot peak near Pala Mesa Resort that is home to the Palomar Observatory and the giant Hale Telescope. Once known for the band-tailed pigeons that inhabited the mountain, the name "Palomar" means "pigeon roost" in Spanish.

As with most Miata runs, the drive to and from the observatory is a major part of the fun! With over 20 hairpin turns in less than seven miles, South Grade Road is popular among motorcycle riders and sports car drivers due to its challenging nature.

At the observatory, you will be able to tour the Visitor's Center and the Hale Telescope. The run will be approximately two and a half hours round trip, and there will be a morning and afternon opportunity.

Following is a 5-minute video about the observatory. You can also click here to visit the observatory's website.
